Privacy Policy

Last updated 4 August 2026

Barrad is a shared grocery list, chore roster and calendar for one household. It needs very little about you, and it is not funded by advertising. This page says exactly what is stored, who can see it, and how to get rid of it.

The short version. We store your name, your email address, and the lists your household writes together. We do not run analytics or advertising SDKs, we do not build a profile of you, and we never sell or share your data with anyone for their own purposes. You can delete everything yourself, from inside the app, at any time.

Who is responsible

Barrad is operated by the developer of the Barrad app, reachable at hello@barrad.app. For data-protection purposes we are the controller of the data described below.

What we collect, and why

DataWhy
Your name (whatever you type, or the name your Google/Apple account gives us) So your housemates can see who added an item, who claimed a chore, and who is in the household.
Your email address To identify your account and let you sign back in or reset your password.
Your household's content — grocery items and notes, chores and who completed them, events and their dates and notes, the household name and invite code This is the app. It is the thing you are keeping.
Notification tokens from your device To send chore reminders. Nothing else is sent to your device.
Timestamps — when an account was created, when an item was ticked, when a chore was done To order lists sensibly and show "last done by …".

What we do not collect

Signing in

You can sign in with an email address and password, with Google, or with Apple. When you use Google or Apple, they confirm your identity to us and pass on your name and email address — we never see your password.

If you use Sign in with Apple and choose Hide My Email, we only ever receive Apple's relay address. That is fine; everything in Barrad works normally.

Who can see your data

The people in your household can see everything in your household — that is the point of a shared list. Specifically, other members can see your display name and everything you add or tick.

Other members cannot see your email address or your password.

Anyone holding your household's six-character invite code can join and see the household's contents. Any member can generate a new code at any time from the Household tab, which immediately stops the old one working.

Who processes it for us

Barrad runs on Google Firebase (Google Cloud Platform), which stores the data and delivers notifications on our behalf. Google acts as our processor and does not use your Barrad data for its own purposes. See Firebase's privacy and security information.

That is the only third party. There are no other SDKs, servers or services in the app.

Where it is stored, and for how long

Data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure and may be processed in countries outside your own, under Google's standard contractual protections.

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, it is removed as described below. When the last member leaves a household, the household and all of its lists, chores and events are deleted automatically.

Deleting your data

In the app: Household → Danger zone → Delete account. This removes your profile, your notification tokens and your sign-in credentials, and takes you out of your household. If you were the last member, the household and everything in it goes too.

If you no longer have the app installed, email hello@barrad.app from the address on the account and we will delete it within 30 days. Full instructions are on the delete your account page.

One thing to be aware of: content you added to a shared household — a grocery item, a chore — belongs to that household and stays with it after you leave, because removing it would tear holes in other people's lists. Your name is no longer attached to it once your account is gone.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or erase your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to your local data-protection authority. Write to hello@barrad.app and we will respond within 30 days.

Our legal basis for handling your account and household data is performance of the contract between you and us — we cannot run a shared household list without it. Notifications rely on our legitimate interest in making the app useful, and you can turn them off in your device settings at any time.

Children

Barrad is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. A household may of course include children; in that case an adult in the household is responsible for their use of the app. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will remove it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access is controlled by server-side security rules so that only members of a household can read or write that household's data. No system is perfect, and we will tell affected users without undue delay if a breach ever puts their data at risk.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how your data is used, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.

Questions? Write to hello@barrad.app. A person reads it.
